This summer my cousin Sharon and her husband, Mike had their first child. Her name is Margaret Jane. We all call her Maggie. Along the way, I’ve shared the progress of this quilt. And now it is finished, and did arrive at their home right in time for Christmas.
Sharon’s request was that I use woodland animals fabric in the quilt. Maggie’s room is lavender and gray. So I found woodland animals fabric with a lavender background – how lucky was that? And made that the feature fabric using a nine patch pattern. Done.
The back I made up using scraps from the front. Of course it has a secret message on it.
When I make baby quilts, I try to include pieces of fabric that have a print on them, that show parts of the parent’s life, growing up, as well as now. Favorite things. Where they came from…..Sharon and Mike are true Texans. On her wedding day, she wore an amazing gown, with cowboy boots underneath. This was the perfect label for this quilt.
Music is a huge part of both parents lives. They also bought a lovely new home.
Sharon loves art and Winnie-the-Pooh. So I added a touch of Winnie and friends on the back. She also loves flowers.
The back of the quilt was made from many scraps and larger pieces of fabric leftover from making the front.
I can’t wait to meet Maggie Jane sometime during the next few months. I hope this quilt keeps her warm and toasty in the cold weather. And she will enjoy pouring over the little details, kind of like, I Spy books.
Wishing everyone a healthy and Happy New Year!!
